Is NextGen AI Digital SAT Prep free?

Yes, the app is free to download and has a free tier with daily limits. Free users get a 5-question practice session a day for Math and one for Reading & Writing, a 10-card flashcard session a day, 3 AI messages a day shared by the AI Tutor and the AI College Counselor, accuracy by section, and one practice test in either format. Scan & Solve is Premium only. Premium removes the daily practice and flashcard limits, adds AI messages with no daily cap (fair use applies, and AI help can pause when demand is very high), more practice tests, and the Premium features listed below. If your Apple Account is eligible for Apple's introductory offer, Premium starts with a 7-day free trial; the app's subscription screen shows whether a trial applies to you.

What does Premium include?

Does the app have an AI tutor for the SAT?

Yes. The AI Tutor answers questions about a practice question you just answered, or about any SAT topic, and you can ask follow-up questions. It uses Google Gemini, with Anthropic Claude as a backup. It stays on SAT topics: a message about something else gets a short reply that steers back to the SAT and does not use one of your free messages, and a calculus question gets a note that the Digital SAT does not test calculus, with an offer to practice the closest SAT skill. AI answers can contain mistakes, and the AI Tutor reminds you to check important answers with a teacher. Free users get 3 AI messages a day, shared with the College Counselor.

Can I scan a question from my SAT book?

Yes, with Premium. Scan & Solve takes a photo of an SAT-style question from a book or worksheet and returns a full worked solution, answer included. Premium allows up to 30 scans a day. A photo that does not show an SAT question gets a short note instead of a solution. The photo is sent to the AI providers named on this page, and the app asks before it sends anything for the first time.

Are the questions from the College Board?

No. The questions are original SAT-style practice questions written for the app. They are not College Board material, and the College Board is not affiliated with the app. All questions are multiple choice with four answer choices; the app has no questions where you type in your own numeric answer, which the Digital SAT Math section also uses.

How do the practice tests work?

The full format has 98 questions in four timed modules, two for Reading & Writing and two for Math, with the Digital SAT's question count and timing. The short format has 44 questions and takes about 56 minutes. In version 1.0.6 the questions in each second module do not depend on how you did in the first module. Each test ends with a results screen that lists the topics where you missed questions.

Does the app show my SAT score?

Premium shows a score estimate: a 400 to 1600 range, with 200 to 800 ranges for each section, worked out from your accuracy in practice. It is an estimate from your practice in the app, not a College Board score, and the range is wider when you have practiced less.

Where does the college data come from?

College Match uses the U.S. Department of Education College Scorecard, 2026 release (fall 2024 admissions; data file of June 10, 2026) for 1,000+ U.S. colleges. It shows each college's admit rate and SAT range where the college reports them. When a college is open admission, does not consider test scores, or does not report a figure, the app says so instead of showing a number. Admissions figures change every year, so check the college's own site before you apply.

What data does the app send, and where?

Your study progress is stored on your device. The AI Tutor, the College Counselor and Scan & Solve send what you ask to Google Gemini (Anthropic Claude as a backup) through the developer's server on Cloudflare. Depending on what you ask about, that is your message and earlier messages in that chat, the question with its answer choices, your answer and the correct answer, a short study summary in the College Counselor, or the photo you take. Your name, email address and a device identifier are not included. The app asks before it sends anything for the first time, and you can turn this off in Settings. The app uses Tenjin to measure which ads lead to installs and subscriptions, and works the same whether or not you allow tracking. Full details: Privacy Policy.

Does the app work without internet?

The questions, explanations and flashcards are stored in the app. The AI Tutor, the College Counselor and Scan & Solve need an internet connection.
